1st DAY!

Let me share with you something from my past. As in way waaaay back in my past. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the very day (or day before, depending on when you consider the story's beginning... or something) I was born. Yes, my birthday.

You see, I was born in the fasting month of Ramadhan. 7th day, in fact. Makes it super easy to remember my 'other' birthday so some years I celebrate birthdays twice... but that's not the story.

Anyways, Mom was already in hospital, so my Dad, at home, cooked porridge to break fast. Then he locked up and went to the hospital. Me being his firstborn, even my Dad readily admitted to being panicky that day.

I was born on ** May, yada yada... So for some reason which I either can't remember or no one told me, my Grandmother went to our old home at Blk 53 New Upper Changi Road. What greeted her were firefighters who had already broke into the house... to put out the fire my Dad left on when he left for the Hospital. Heh, what a way to announce your entry into the world, make your Dad burn nearly the entire kitchen..

So why am I recalling this now? Yesterday was my 1st duty at the fire station. (Did I mention I passed out and am now posted to an eastern Fire Station?) At first I wasn't attached to any vehicles or appliances as they call them in the force but after lunch I joined the DO Pump ladder crew (a.k.a your typical fire engine).

My very very first fire call was in fact, an unattended cooking. Admittedly, I did little but it is still my first turn out. The second was a false alarm of, yup, unattended cooking.

Great irony huh? Welcome to the World: oh, look Dad left the stove on. Welcome to Fire Fighting: here, go deal with unattended cookings.

Life's just filled with coincidences and surprises, no?
