Westoxication

I found this word in the local daily. It's a term used by an Arab community to describe the negative and destructive influence of the Western Culture and power within their country.

Hmm.. I guess part of a politician's job is to come up with new bombastic words to make his civilians feel extremely inferior. I mean, COME ON! "Weapons of Mass Destruction." Put an AK47 in the hands of an elite Commando Soldier and he'll probably hit someone with every round in the magazine. It's just modern day propaganda. By using terms like WMD, you make it sound so threatening your citizens would feel you are OBLIGED to act on it. To me it's a sad excuse to enter another nation, check and keep tabs on its armouries, probably weakening it before invading it. But hey, it's just me, just an outsider's point of view.

IRs. Integrated Resorts. Sounds cool right? Unless you're a Singaporean, you have no idea what it is. However unlike Singaporeans your country may already have it. What is it? Also known as Casinos. See what I mean. The play on words.

I guess this is the new weapon in the modern day politician's arsenal. In our highly-educated, high tech communities, the only way to sway the people to your stand is by baffling them with new terms, make them feel stupid for not thinking their way and then impose it on them.

But then again, When I become a voter, I'll probably vote for the 'IRs' party despite what I just said. Why? Because they can come up with such cool terms. I mean, I bet if you give them any syncronyms they will be able to dish out a term that will faze you.

But then, they may not have the time. Bah. Good night.
