This is the Singapore-style of sliding down the pole. I'm not so proficient as these people in the video. I don't jump onto the railing, rather, I take my time, make sure my grips are right before sliding down.

In the case of my fall, I was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt. Bad idea. The friction from the pole on my arm (which, if you observed the video carefully, is the only arm on the pole and acts as a brake and support) caused me to think that this was a bad idea and I thought, hey, why don't I switch to the safer "International style" midway. So I let go of the pole... and fell. Fortunately there was some cushion at the bottom or things would have been a lot nastier..

I've learned my lesson. When I'm wearing short sleeves.. I go down like this:
